A total of 10 members of the Elmbrook Swim Club (EBSC) senior team traveled to the University of Iowa to compete in the Speedo Championship Series.
This long-course meet is mainly comprised of college-age swimmers from around the central zone states, including five Big Ten teams. EBSC swimmers were strong competitors, earning 30 lifetime-best swims.
Highlights include Sara Brzozowski's top-10 finishes, including fifth, seventh and 10th. Other EBSC swimmers included Brian Borden, Chris Breger, Maggie Lingle, Lindsay Powell, Maddie Severance, Amanda Siehs, Carley Stewart, Erik Wahlgren and Nicole Wahlgren.
Also, 22 athletes from EBSC competed in the 12 and Under Long Course State Championship held at Schroeder Aquatic Center on July 27-29, with the team as a whole swimming to a fifth-place finish.
The following swimmers set EBSC club records: Lizzie Geske (8 and under girls), 38.91 in the 50-meter butterfly; Maggie Teng (10 and under girls), 2:34 in the 200-meter freestyle, 5:21.38 in the 400-meter free, 39.40 in the 50-meter breaststroke and 2:52.71 in the 200-meter individual medley; Emily Ulmer (11-12 girls), 35.69 in the 50 breast and 2:25.03 in the 200-meter breast and Sam Kult (11-12 boys), 10.31.53 in the 800-meter free.
The following results represent top-16 finishes by age and gender. All swims are in meters.
10 and under girls: Anna Kult: fifth in the 50 breast and ninth in the 100 breast; Maggie Teng: third in the 50 breast and 100 breast, fifth in the 200 IM and the 200 free, seventh in the 400 free and 12th in the 50 free.
10 and under boys: Liam Flatley, fifth in the 50 back, sixth in the 100 back, eighth in the 200 IM, 10th in the 100 free and 11th in the 100 fly and 50 fly; Ido Korabelnikov, ninth in the 200 free and 12th in the 50 free and 400 free; Michael Linnihan, third in the 100 free, fourth in the 50 free, seventh in the 200 free, eighth in the 400 free and 15th in the 200 IM and 50 fly.
11-12 girls: Natalie Larsen, third in the 100 fly, fourth in the 200 fly, ninth in the 50 fly, 10th in the 200 IM, and 14th in the 800 free; Emma Schaetz, eighth in the 100 fly, 11th in the 50 fly, 12th in the 200 free and 100 free, and 13th in the 50 free; Emily Ulmer, second in the 50 breast and 100 breast, third in the 200 breast; Leah Westcott, fourth in the 200 IM and 800 free; sixth in the 400 free, seventh in the 200 back and 200 free and eighth in the 400 IM.
11-12 boys: Eric Chen, 14th in the 100 breast and 50 fly, 15th in the 200 breast; Sam Kult, sixth in the 400 free and 800 free, 400 IM and 200 IM, eighth in the 200 fly, ninth in the 100 fly; Ryan Linnihan, fifth in the 400 free, eighth in the 200 free, ninth in the 800 free and 15th in the 100 free and 50 back: Zach Sekaran, second in the 50 free, 100 fly and 100 free, third in the 50 back, and fourth in the 50 breast and 50 fly.
Relays: The 11-12 girls' relay team of Natalie Larsen, Emma Schaetz, Emily Ulmer and Leah Westcott finished second in the 400 medley, third in the 200 medley and sixth in the 400 free. The relay team of Schaetz, Kathleen Flatley, Larsen and Westcott finished eighth in the 200 free. The boys' 11-12 relay of Sam Kult, Christian Larsen, Ryan Linnihan and Zach Sekaran finished third in the 200 free. The relay of Sekaran, Eric Chen, Kult, and Linnihan finished fifth in the 400 medley. The boys 10 and under relay team of Dell Dembny, Liam Flatley, Ido Korabelnikov and Michael Linnihan finished second in the 200 free and fifth in the 200 medley. The girls 10 and under team of Jordynn Balducci, Maggie Teng, Lizzi Geske and Anna Kult finished fifth in the 200 medley.
Other EBSC participants included Rachel Bloss, Lauren Ferge, Lilly Perkins, Emma Smith and Zoe Woods.
