Brookfield Academy wrapups: May 15

May 15, 2012

Girls soccer

Brookfield Academy had a 3-0 week topped off by a stunning 1-0 decision over fourth-ranked Catholic Memorial on Saturday.

In the win over the Crusaders, the BA defense - comprised of Jenny Giera, Ally Anderson, Issy Ricci and Claire Lo - along with senior goalkeeper Ana Bayerlein shut down Catholic Memorial's offense. Liz Collins dribbled forward and slid a great pass to Eimile Pesch who smashed the ball into the net for what would be the only goal of the day with five minutes left to play.

In a 4-0 win over Dominican on May 8, Pesch had a goal and an assist while Anderson, Grace Beagle and Collins rounded out the scoring. Lo and Ricci had the other assists.

The next day BA beat St Joan Antida, 14-0, with 11 different girls scoring goals. Giera scored her first ever goal in a Blue Knights uniform, as did Sarah Morris, Jane Eichstaedt and Tejas Kaur.

Boys tennis

Over the weekend, BA finished second to winner USM in the Midwest Classic Conference Tournament.

No. 2 doubles Jack Eimerman/Justin Saeian had the only first place, but No. 3 doubles Anmar Omari /Ajay Doniparthi and No. 3 singles Will Conley placed second.

No. 1 singles Chris Conley, No. 2 singles Bjorn Norderhaug and No. 3 singles Danny Trunzo placed third.

Track

The track teams had some good showings in the Kettle Moraine Invite last week.

Melody Stier took third in the 1,600-meter race, while Carissa Herbert took fifth and seventh in the 100-meters and 200, respectively.

Patrick Novacek took first in the long jump and fourth in the 300 hurdles and took first overall in the long jump. Zacaria Balkhy finished third in the 100 and sixth in the 200; Eli Wrenn was fifth in the 200; Philip Steigerwald, seventh in the shot put and eighth in the discus.

Baseball

It was another solid week for the Brookfield Academy Blue Knights, going 4-0 (3-0 in conference). The Blue Knights defeated Dominican on May 8 and May 10, Messmer on May 9 and Heritage Christian on Saturday.

Ace pitcher Tyler Frohwirth went Tuesday and Saturday, giving up one run in 14 innings, pitching in two very close games. Frohwirth has had a phenomenal year, going the distance in nearly every start he has had so far.

Tuesday, however, wasn't so close. Zach Kolasinski threw three innings and Al Dentice threw the two innings to combine for a perfect game against Messmer. The perfect game was the first in Brookfield Academy history. The Blue Knights ended up winning the game 21-0.

Saturday was a different story. The Blue Knights played Heritage Christian and needed Dominic Ricci's clutch two-run, two-out single to right field to win, 2-1.

The Blue Knights will be looking to improve their record to 18-3 after the final week of conference play.
