Brookfield Academy wrapups: Feb. 13

Feb. 13, 2012

Boys basketball

The Blue Knights dropped a 77-59 decision to state-ranked Whitefish Bay Dominican (17-1) on Feb. 9 at home and fell three games behind the first-place Knights.

The Knights are 13-0, two games ahead of Brookfield Academy (9-2, 11-6 overall) in the loss column.

For the second time this year Dominican crushed the Blue Knights, having beaten them, 74-48, in their first meeting.

A 23-9 second period broke open a close game as it was 20-19 after one quarter. Sophomore Sean Clarey had 20 points (four 3-pointers), Domonique Criss had 18, doing most of his work inside, and Tyler Frohwirth had 11, including three 3s.

Dominican's talented backcourt of Duane Wilson and Jamall Taylor each had 22 points while freshman Diamond Stone had 12.

Brookfield Academy, having played at University School on Tuesday, hosts Hope Christian Feb. 16, Saint John's NW Military Academy on Saturday and then travels to Messmer on Feb. 21.

Girls basketball

The Brookfield Academy girls lost two games last week to Catholic Memorial, 69-46, on Feb. 7 and a Dominican on Friday, 65-35.

Eimile Pesch and Jenny Giera had 11 and 10 points, respectively, as the Crusaders blew them away with a 21-4 first period. Allison Mueller had 24 points for Memorial.

A bad first quarter (21-9) once again buried the Blue Knights in the loss to Dominican. Pesch was the only Brookfield Academy player in double figures with 13. Dilonna Johnson had 31 for the Knights, including seven 3-pointers.

Boys swimming

Freshman Kevin Van Cleave qualified for the WIAA Division 2 State Swimming & Diving Tournament Friday and Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Natatorium.

Van Cleave finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.51) and got in under the qualifying time (1:04.56) at the sectional meet on Saturday in Cudahy.

Other successful swims at the sectional meet include Neil Chand in the 50 freestyle (10th place), Luc Boyce in the 50 freestyle (20th place), Doug Peters in the 50 freestyle (25th place), Ricky Singh in the 50 freestyle (32nd place), and Kristopher Hildebrand in the 50 freestyle (35th place).
