Brookfield East got the season off to a good start, winning the PT Timing Invitational at Arrowhead on Friday.
"It was great to beat Division 2 champion Pewaukee and state-ranked Arrowhead to get our season started," East coach Kim Leupold said. "We got outstanding performances by Taylor Conway and Taylor Stewart, and Shannon Cashin played a huge role as our fifth runner to help us cinch the meet with a first-place overall team finish."
East put five runners in the Top 10, led by Conway, who finished second in 15 minutes, 35 seconds. Stewart was fifth (15:46).
Madeline Timm finished sixth (16:13), Natalie Dillon seventh (16:17) and Cashin ninth (16:32).
East had three other runners compete: Kathleen Browne (19th, 17:12), Brianna Mathison (20th, 17:22) and Brittany Allen (23rd, 17:38).
The Spartans scored 29 points to edge host Arrowhead by three points. Pewaukee (62) and Pius XI (126) rounded out the scoring.
