Taylor brings Joy to her job
AD's assistant all smiles as she juggles many duties
It's easy to spot Joy Taylor when you attend a Brookfield Central athletic event.
She's the lady with the big smile on her face.
The effervescent Taylor has been the administrative assistant to the athletic director at Central for the past eight years. She has worked under four athletic directors since coming aboard eight years ago: Jerry Keyes, Scott Nelson, Dan Anderson and now Todd Sobrilsky, who came aboard this summer.
Taylor is a Lancer through and through, having graduated from Central in 1980. In her current position, her duties include sending out contracts to schools for the various athletic events, handling the coaches' payroll and assisting the athletic director in anything that needs to be done.
"I always try and make sure things go smoothly," she said. "I want to make sure there is no trouble with anything we're doing."
Taylor easily goes above and beyond duty.
This time of year, with the athletes reporting for sports before school even starts, finds Taylor going full tilt, getting out paperwork and making sure all the WIAA physical cards are turned, among other things.
Taylor made sure she was there to show her new boss around when Sobrilsky came aboard after school let out.
"Invaluable" was the first thing Sobrilsky said when asked about Taylor. "There is no way to describe how much Joy brings to the table in terms of helping someone new like myself. Not just in the day-to-day operations of the job - the paper shuffling - but helping me learn the culture of the place.
"She helped me get to know the history of what's here - not just here at Brookfield Central High School but in the community as well," he said. "She's very well known in the community. She has a great bubbly personality. She made sure my family felt welcomed. She introduced us to everyone she could. I can't begin to tell you how much we've appreciated everything she has done for us."
Taylor is definitely a good example of someone who enjoys what she does.
"I love it," she said. "I love the people, the kids. I had three kids go to Central and I have a fourth one that starts this fall. My blood bleeds Lancer Blue."
