The Brookfield East boys got their season off to a fine start, defeating defending state champion Muskego, 2-1, Aug. 17, then blanking Homestead, 4-0, Saturday.
The East Spartans had their first game moved from home to Muskego because of a facility problem, but playing on foreign soil didn't bother them.
After Muskego scored two minutes into the game, the East defense slammed the door on the Warriors and didn't give up another goal. East outshot Muskego 27 to 5.
Mr. All-Everything Peter Horner scored the first goal of East's season, with an assist from Chris Haeberle, at the 62-minute mark to tie the game. Evan Griffin gave the Spartans the 2-1 lead at 77 minutes for the victory.
The Spartans rolled at East on Saturday, as Horner scored twice in the 4-0 win over the Homestead Highlanders.
Andy Raymonds assisted on Horner's first goal at 30:34 for a 1-0 halftime lead. Then Raymonds scored 3:05 into the second half for a 2-0 lead.
Horner added his third goal of the year at 52:20, and George Duarte closed out the scoring with five minutes left to play.
East outshot the Highlanders, 22-6, as goalkeeper Matthew Flanagan only needed to save two shots.
