"Dick, perhaps you could offer an opinion on something for me. The american government structure is based on separation of powers, separate but equal, checks & balances, etc. That's why the Federal Constitution defines an executive, legislative and judicial branch. That concept is carried through to state and local levels.

So, is it proper for an incumbant alderman to gather election nomination signatures for a judge and/or mayor? Doesn't that sound like an attempt to bypass the separation concept to create a monolithic, rubber stamp government? Political parties do that all the time (including for judges!) but local offices are supposed to be non-partisan. Doesn't this just confirm the conspiracy theory that the whole system is fixed to avoid dissent?
