The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has granted the village of Elm Grove up to $5,000 to help with the village's wildlife abatement program. Village officials have determined the deer population has become large enough that it must be culled.
Deer are regularly counted to monitor the number of permanent and transient deer in the area.
The money from the state will cover 50 percent of the village's expenses in getting a handle on the deer and goose populations.
Police Chief Jim Gage says he expects to have a plan in place in the next few weeks to control the animals.
