Aldermanic candidate and former judge Richard Steinberg has filed a complaint against his opponent, incumbent Daniel Sutton, for failing to put a legally required disclaimer on his election literature.
Steinberg filed the complaint with the Waukesha County District Attorney, claiming Sutton has been distributing fliers without displaying who paid for the materials.
Wisconsin state law dictates that such disclaimers are necessary and Sutton faces up to a $500 fine for failing to adhere to the policy. Documents sent to both the DA and the city of Brookfield clerk show the literature has no indication of who is financially responsible.
Sutton did not immediately respond to a NOW Newspapers request for comment.
The investigation had not been completed at the time of NOW's deadline. Updates to this article will be posted on BrookfieldNOW.com as they become available.
