Poehls making name for himself

Brookfield chiropractor awarded for work

Jan. 2, 2013

Taylor Poehls is still relatively young in the chiropractic business.

But even in his limited experience, others see a bright future in the 30-year-old.

Poehls, the clinic director at The Chiropractic Company in Brookfield, was recognized for his work during the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association's four-day annual conference in October at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells when he received the WCA Nels Bakke Award.

The award, voted on by the WCA Board, honors chiropractors who have been in practice for less than five years and recognizes the contribution of younger practitioners who have dedicated themselves to serving the profession and their community.

"I am honored to have received this award," Poehls said. "It was also an honor to be recognized at this year's convention in front of my peers. It motivates me to continue providing community outreach programs to local businesses, non-profits and other organizations to improve the health and wellness of community on the local and state levels."

Poehls started with The Chiropractic Company in 2009 as a chiropractor and was promoted to run the Brookfield office in June 2011.

Since then, he said, their office has grown and has been working with local businesses and groups.

Poehls is certified in nutritional counseling and as a kinesiotaping practitioner.

In addition to the state recognition, Poehls was recently named the Top Chiropractor in the Shepherd Express Best of Milwaukee Readers' Choice Awards 2012.

"It's been a fun year," Poehls said.

Getting to this point has been a little surprising to him.

"I had no idea what a chiropractor did until I was a junior in college," said Poehls, who graduated from UW-Stevens Point in 2005 with a degree in Health Promotion and Wellness and then earned his doctorate at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

"I was interested in the health sciences and that's when I stumbled upon chiropractic. After shadowing many chiropractors, I found that they all loved their work and their patients all seemed to love them. It seemed like a great gig, and it is."

Poehls said the best part of his job is giving people hope in the power of their bodies to heal and be healthy as well as to help them find their way to health and happiness.
