The Sept. 7 Founders' Day ceremony drew 1,200 attendees, including 33 original members of the school along with current students, faculty and staff. Tom Davis, one of the original students and a member of the academy's first graduating class in 1971, gave a thoughtful, moving speech. It was all to recognize the school's 50th anniversary, which will be celebrated throughout this year.
The Elmbrook School Board recently approved the hiring of several new teachers at Central, including Junfang Lan, Chinese; Kevin Thompson, science; Katherine Burns, math; Gretchen Wolfe, RTI; Linda Smith, German; and Shannon Maki, English.
The Class of 2013 has selected "Be Strong & Courageous" as the yearlong theme. The school plans to hold various discussions and programs focusing on the theme throughout the school year.
Math teacher Kelli Kwiatkowski has received the Wisconsin Association for Gifted and Talented 2012 Outstanding Secondary Teacher Award. Each year the association honors an elementary educator, secondary educator, higher education representative, administrator, business/industry contribution, parent, gifted and talented coordinator, and legislator who have had a significant impact in Wisconsin to further quality education of gifted children. In other news, the School Board recently approved the hiring of new teachers Bill Kajawa, math; Lindsay Sayles, social studies; Junfang Lan, Chinese; Katharine McClellan, English; Kevin Thompson, science; Jason Van Roo, art; and Karen Henricks, special education.

Fourth-grade students are preparing to visit the Wisconsin State Capitol on Oct. 5. Students will participate in a session called "Why History Matters" at the Wisconsin Historical Museum.

Pilgrim Park Middle School
The Music Department has announced that the 2012-13 school musical will be "Little Mermaid, Jr." Performances are scheduled for Feb. 14, 15 and 16 at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center. The School Board recently approved the hiring of new teachers Shayla Wesoloski, eighth-grade math and science; Brandi Browskowski, Latin; Stacy Chapman, seventh grade; and Gabrielle Shiels, eighth-grade language and social studies.
The Marketing Committee just completed a new academic brandmark that reflects its Christian roots. In other news, the school is looking for energetic people to give tours to prospective families throughout the year. Volunteers will be provided talking points and their time commitment will be minimal.
St. John Vianney
Students entering 4-year-old kindergarten celebrated the start of the new school year by decorating canvas totes they will use as book bags. While the totes serve as a matte for whimsical ballerinas and growing dinosaurs, the project is meant to introduce the students to the concepts of community, sharing, creating and learning. It's part of teacher Kathy Adrecci's commitment to introducing students to a faith-based community.
St. Mary's Visitation
Parents will meet at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 13 in the school gym to meet teachers and check out the latest technology being used in the classroom. They will also learn about the school's recent recognition in information, technology and media skills awarded by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee
Swanson held a parent information night Wednesday. The School Board recently approved the hiring of teachers Kristin Uhan, music; Krista Radtke, third grade; Angela Patterson, first grade; and Mary Richter, second grade.
In addition to the new kindergarten students, Tonawanda has welcomed 13 new students in grades one through five this year. The school has 17 new staff members: Michele Hoffman (kindergarten), Jennie Katrichis (psychologist), David Schimpf (third grade), Nichole Grube (social worker), Jenny Schultz (fourth grade), Tricia Ortell (physical education), Rick Ziolkowski (fourth grade), Debbie Haynes (ELL asstistant), Susan Mildren (special education), Ann Bumgardner (health room), Sara Gull (librarian), Arlean Falkner (Special education asstistant), Amy Jacobson (art), Julienne Thomas (library secretary), Jesse Graves (art), Debbie Haynes (ELL assistant) and Caitlin Birrenkott (student teacher).
Wisconsin Hills Middle School
The building has been cleaned, staff members have set up their classrooms and kids are filling the school with enthusiasm. In other news, the district recently approved the addition of Brandi Browskowski as a Latin teacher.
