Brookfield Academy

The mock trial varsity team earned first place in the regional competition at the Waukesha County Courthouse. They will compete with other regional winners in Madison on March 10. Team members are sophomores Aidan McCarty and Rachael Overland; juniors Nancy Cattani, Paige Hammond, Liam McCarty and Simar Puri; and seniors Sara Eslami and Andrea Sommer. Team coaches are Manjula Guru and David Wacholz.

Brookfield Central

Third-term parent-teacher conferences will take place from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27.

Brookfield Christian

The kindergarteners enjoyed "friendship games" with their fourth-grade reading buddies. The second-graders learned about George Washington Carver. Middle-schoolers took part in Spirit Week, with Twin Day, Crazy Hair Day and more. The weekend ended with an all-school pep rally to send the seventh- and eighth-grade boys and girls basketball teams to the end-of-the-year tournament in Randolph.

Brookfield East

FBLA is hosting a computer workshop for senior citizens in which students will cover Facebook, Gmail and basic Internet features. The workshop is from 3 to 4:15 p.m. March 14 at Brookfield East. Brookfield Elementary

Meteorologist Mark McGinnis talked to Mindy Graser's kindergarten class. The children learned about Wisconsin's weather and why it is different than that in other parts of the world. As a class exercise, the children learned how to make weather observations. Then, they decided what would be appropriate clothing based on their observations.

Burleigh Elementary

Second-grade students have completed their latest science unit, "Balance & Motion." Second-grade students spent time playing with games or toys that roll, spin or use balance.

Dixon Elementary

The school's Parents Night Out will be Feb. 23 at O'Donaghue's in Elm Grove.

Elm Grove

Evangelical Lutheran

The Discovery Youth (seventh and eighth grades) made its annual trip to downtown Milwaukee to attend ComedySportz. Members enjoyed a family-friendly evening of improvisational humor. After the show, the students were allowed to get up on stage with the performers to pose for pictures.

Fairview South

Candy bars are on sale for $1 apiece in the front office. All proceeds go toward the yearbook. There are five varieties available: milk chocolate, milk chocolate with crisped rice, milk chocolate with roasted almonds, milk chocolate with peanut butter and milk chocolate with caramel.

Immanuel Lutheran

Sixth-grade students have begun the D.A.R.E. program. This year officer Kevin David of the Brookfield Police Department is the teacher. Seventh-graders have started their instruction in the Junior Achievement program, designed to help students understand the importance of free enterprise. The leader, Paula Gohde, concentrates on what makes an entrepreneur successful.

Pilgrim Park

Middle School

The outstanding work of seven students was chosen from a total of 400 high school and middle school entries from Southeast Wisconsin for exhibition at a juried art show, the 7th annual Milwaukee Regional Art Fair, sponsored by the Milwaukee Career Academy. The artwork is displayed in an exhibition at the Oconomowoc High School Fine Arts Gallery.

St. John Vianney

Art class is getting personal as art teacher Dana Bach challenges the kids to produce a self-portrait this quarter. All the grade levels are involved. The projects help the students "focus on seeing and understanding their identity and what makes them who they are," Bach said. Using different methods and mediums, the students' projects will reflect their "own personal identity in the world," she added.

St. Mary's Visitation

Junior high students will travel to Sunburst to learn about physics and the science of snow tubing. The field trip will give students an opportunity to collect, graph and interpret data; measure angles; learn about friction, potential and kinetic energy; and calculate acceleration, force, speed and power.

Swanson Elementary

Once again, Swanson artists have their work uploaded onto an online art museum called Artsonia. Students can write an artist statement about their work for everyone to read. There also is merchandise that can be purchased with the students' art imprinted on it. Fifteen percent of the sales comes back to help the art department buy supplies.

Tonawanda Elementary

The PTO is holding its annual Andrea Steen Crawford blood drive from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. March 11 at the school. Appointments can be made at BCW.edu/Tonawanda. Walk-ins are welcome.

Wisconsin Hills

Middle School

The forensics team earned seven medals at the Feb. 8 Kettle Moraine Tournament. Medal recipients are: gold - Aafreen Sajid, special events; Reilly Olinger, demonstration; Ben Kohlman, non-original oratory; Siddharth Kulkarni, moments in history; Arnav Bhat, moments in history; silver - Kate Valdez, solo serious; Victoriya, Tarkanova, prose.
