Brookfield Elementary
The second-grade students have been learning about urban, suburban and rural communities. The students also are learning mapping skills and directions. To enhance the study of communities, the students built a mini-community. Each student built a house at school and a service building at home. The students picked a building that is common in most communities, such as a post office, bank, church, school, restaurant, etc. The community built by students and families is displayed in the second-grade breakout area.
Dixon Elementary

Kathy Thomas's first-grade students got to read with a special guest recently. Thomas' daughter, Katelyn, and her dog, Tucker, are a certified therapy team. They are part of the Read to Rover program, a national program that uses trained therapy dogs (and their trained owner) to listen to children read. It provides a safe, non-threatening environment for children to read without the stress of being "corrected" by a well-intentioned human.
