The Young Executives Club sponsored a schoolwide book drive for Project Hope. The school community generously donated 1,692 books. Students counted, sorted and packed the boxes and met with the lead social worker for Project Hope to deliver the donation.
All-School Thematic Family Night is being held from 5 to 8 p.m. April 26. This year's theme is "Celebrate the 'U' in Burleigh." Each grade level and department has selected an area related to the theme to be their primary focus of study. Guests will see evidence of the grade-level connection to our theme throughout the halls. Activities will include a chicken dinner, group karaoke, Zumba for kids, an art station, a science fair and more.
Christ the Lord Lutheran
On April 26, the Jubilation Handbell Choir from Wisconsin Lutheran High School will perform for the students. On May 3 and 4, the students of Christ the Lord Lutheran will perform the musical "Willy Wonka, Jr." The free showings are at 6:30 each evening.
The spring concert will take place at 7 p.m. May 2. The fourth- and fifth-grade band, choir and orchestra students will be performing music in a variety of styles.
A spring concert will be presented by the pr-kindergarten through second-grade classes April 27. Each class will sing several songs learned through the year. The kindergarten through grade two choir also will sing several selections. Families will enjoy an ice cream social following the program.
Hillside celebrated its volunteers by inviting them all in for an appreciation luncheon. Students decorated the luncheon with artwork. Each student signed a fish in order to o-fish' lly thank their treasured volunteers. Throughout the month of April, Hillside students have celebrated National Poetry Month by reading and writing poems. Each morning announcement included students sharing their original poems.
The seventh- and eighth-grade boys volleyball team will compete in a tournament at Immanuel Lutheran School on April 27 and 28. The tournament is sponsored by the Immanuel PTL and Boosters. Exciting volleyball, delicious food and fun fellowship are planned.
St. John Vianney
The sixth-graders went to Miller Park for a day of learning, fun and baseball during Weather Day at Miller Park. Students enjoyed a special meteorology lesson and a visit from Bernie Brewer and the Klement's Famous Racing Sausages, along with a special science fair before watching the Brewers play the Los Angeles Dodgers. First-graders went to First Stage to see "Diary of a Worm and Spider."
St. Mary's Visitation
The sixth-grade students had an opportunity to express how they think and feel about adults in a creative writing workshop run by Catholic Memorial English teacher Tom New. Their writing was collected, along with writing samples from other participating schools, and sent to Catholic Memorial students. These high school students wrote a play based off material from some of the student entries.
Students designed and decorated grocery bags to celebrate Earth Day. The bags will be used by Metro Market.
Tonawanda will hold a Family Fun and Theme Night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 27. The night will include some preparation activities for an upcoming author visit from Mike Thaler and a fun and interactive performance from Sunset Playhouse.
