Former Green Bay Packers running back William Henderson will soon be added to the list of local business owners at Sendik's Towne Centre. Henderson's Sweet Frog Premium Yogurt will open at the end of this month.
Located at Capitol Drive and Brookfield Road, the property is home to more than 30 local retailers and restaurants such as Neroli Salon and Spa, Sendik's Fine Foods, North Star Bistro, Jake's Burger and others.
Phillips Edison & Co. purchased the center in 2011, adding four new tenants to the 189,000-square-foot center in the past year. The center was designed to give customers the ability to handle all of their shopping needs in one location, with a layout similar to Bayshore Town Center.
Jenna Johnson, marketing and events director for the company, said shoppers and tenants alike appreciate the outdoor one-stop feel of the center.
"You can get your dry cleaning done, go grocery shopping, and get your hair done and more all in one stop," Johnson said.
Sendik's Towne Centre also hosts community events such as a walking club, outdoor concerts, and outdoor yoga.
Johnson said the center recently made upgrades to its property based on customer and tenant feedback. The reconfiguration project included about 80 new parking stalls, new sidewalks, and changes to the traffic and angle parking pattern of the lots. The center is also looking to add more outdoor seating and additional landscaping. "We want to use the property as it was designed and enhance the shopping experience for shoppers," Johnson said.
Brookfield economic development coordinator Timothy Casey said the changes Phillips Edison & Co. have made are positive additions.
"They've invested in the property and have a lot of exciting new retailers to drive more traffic," Casey said.
The variety of local retailers also gives customers a chance to meet small business owners from their own community.
"When customers come in, it's probably the owner that will be greeting them and helping them," Johnson said.
It's unknown if Henderson will be one of the greeters at his new store, but Johnson said he's no stranger to the center.
"I see him here all the time, he's a very hands-on owner, so I'm sure we will talk about having him here for the grand opening," she said.
Sweet Frog Premium Yogurt launched in 2009 and has more than 100 frozen yogurt locations nationwide.
