First Federal Bank of Wisconsin proposed for Brookfield gateway

The construction of a First Federal Bank of Wisconsin is being considered for the northeast corner of Moorland Road and Greenfield Avenue.

The Brookfield Plan Commission approved a public hearing being scheduled for the proposal within the next two months.

The bank would be 4,000 square feet and offer drive-thru service.

Commissioners expressed some disappointment when comparing the plan with what was once considered for the gateway site - the 115,000-square-foot Fountain Brook Crossing development, which would have featured an indoor waterfall and rooftop garden - but said they recognize the downturn in the market and other limitations prevented the previous project from advancing, and expressed support for First Federal's proposal.

"It would be unfair for us to judge your project … based upon what was brought forward to us a couple years ago," Alderman Gary Mahkorn said. "I certainly have no problems whatsoever with the proposal."

Commissioner Kevin Wahlgren noted the city will need more details about proposed building materials as the project advances.
