Elmbrook School Board names finalist for superintendent post

Feb. 13, 2012 | 10 comments

The Elmbrook School Board has identified Mark Hansen, currently chief academic officer in the Pewaukee School District, as the finalist to become the next Elmbrook school superintendent.

In a news release, the board noted that 47 candidates formally applied, six candidates were interviewed and two finalists were under serious consideration until one withdrew.

"Mr. Hansen has an outstanding track record of educational accomplishment and leadership and the board looks forward to continuing its analysis and vetting of his candidacy on Feb. 16," School Board President Tom Gehl said.

On Feb. 16, Hansen will tour two schools, meet with select district and school staff members and have a finalist interview.

The board wants to hire a new superintendent before the end of the month so that person is ready to serve the district July 1. Current Superintendent Matt Gibson, who has served the district for the past 17 years, is retiring.

  1. Wow, this guy crashed and burned in Waukesha but I guess he is good enough for Elmbrook. Has the school board done their homework? Check it out.

  5. Care.....
Care to elaborate or give a source, I would like to know more.
  6. Elmbrook is already a high performing district. It will be interesting to see if whoever gets the top job will collaborate with the teachers on various issues or implement a top down strategy like Governor Walker has been so fond of.
  7. I say higher the candidate that promises to get rid of block scheduling the day he starts.
  8. I recently took a class with Mark Hansen as the professor through Cardinal Stritch. Honestly, he is one of the most informed and passionate teachers I have ever had. This includes any of the teachers I had through my undergrad at UW Madison. The improvement at Pewaukee sort of speaks for itself. If Elmbrook is lucky enough to get him he will be a great hire. This is a guy who is very cutting edge and on top of things, I guess if you are a person who does not appreciate self improvement or changing systems to fit 21st century learning, you might not like his approach. My guess is that people will be pretty happy with him if he gets the job.
  9. Watch out! Pewaukee has 4-K and this guy may have a bias towards it regardless of taxpayers' sentiments!
  10. Conservative Mensch - please get the facts straight before you post. Adding 4-K would turn into a long term money generator for the district. Adding students at an earlier age would allow the district to keep those kids from going elsewhere. We have space to make it work. Any way you cut it, our current funding system in our state is flawed, so we need to get creative as a district to stay ahead of neighboring districts knowing that funding isn't going to get any better in the near future under the current administration. It's too bad that the politicians/taxpayers in our great state are willing to mortgage off our nationally ranked education system to save a few bucks. We used to take pride in our educational system, now we have politicians who are blaming our revenue woes on teachers and other public employees. It's disgraceful and embarrassing for our state.
