Easter Bunny pulling double duty at egg hunts

Brookfield, Elm Grove host family friendly fun March 31

March 20, 2012

Two community groups are planning separate Easter events in the Brookfield/Elm Grove area from 10 to 11:30 a.m. March 31.

The Brookfield Junior Woman's Club and the City of Brookfield Parks and Recreation Department will hold activities at Mitchell Park, 18900 Capitol Drive, while the Elm Grove Junior Guild will hold activities at the Elm Grove Village Hall, 13600 Juneau Blvd.

Both events are free; however, the Elm Grove Junior Guild requests that participants bring canned goods to donate to the New Berlin Food Pantry.

The Brookfield event will feature an egg hunt that will be divided into age groups, accommodating children up to age 8. To make it fair, instead of stuffing the plastic eggs with candy, prizes will be handed out to the children after the egg hunt.

"Everybody gets a chance, big or small," said Marty Will, city of Brookfield park programs and operations manager. "It's a fun event. Typically it's over within an hour, hour and a half."

People are encouraged to arrive on time to ensure everyone can participate in the egg hunt and that eggs are still left, he said.

There also will be craft activities for all age groups in the Mitchell Park Pavilion. The Easter Bunny will be on hand to visit and take pictures with children.

Attendees will be able to check out a city of Brookfield police car and learn more about the Elmbrook Humane Society and the animals the group helps. Karate America will give demonstrations.

Free coffee and hot cocoa will be available.

The Elm Grove egg hunt will be held outside, near the gazebo, and be divided by age groups. Children will have the opportunity to win candy and prizes during the hunt.

The Easter Bunny will be on hand to take pictures with children, and games and other treats will be available in the Community Room in Village Hall.

Both events will be held rain or shine.

"People should be prepared - bring your umbrella," said Maureen Patch from the Elm Grove Junior Guild. "It does not get canceled; there is no rain date."

At both events, people are encouraged to bring their own bags or baskets for collecting eggs.
