The old joke about there being two seasons in Wisconsin - winter and construction - may not seem very funny with nearly 20 road projects on the schedule this year in the city of Brookfield, not including the major work being done along Bluemound Road.
You may already have seen some of it, particularly on Capitol Drive, as crews have started work and delays are taking hold as the weather warms up and people are looking to get out more.
City of Brookfield Public Works Director Tom Grisa said this number of projects isn't unusual and most of the work is being done on side streets.
While there will be road and lane closures, the city can't pinpoint exactly when they will occur - weather and other factors can play a role in how quickly a project progresses. For all projects, local traffic will still be able to traverse the street. However, in some cases, through-traffic will need to go around roadwork for a short distance - none of the closures will cover enough distance to require signed detour routes.
