As the last of the leaves fall from the trees, the city of Brookfield Department of Public Works is reminding residents about the rules for disposing of yard waste.
Thomas Grisa, director of public works, said burning is allowed on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. when the wind speed does not exceed 15 mph. Burning piles must be no larger than 5 feet in diameter, 2 feet high, 25 feet from the front lot line, 15 feet from the side and 10 feet from the rear. Burning is not permitted on ditches or roadways.
The city does not pick up yard brush and waste, he said.. City of Brookfield residents can haul bagged leaves to the recycling center, 19700 Riverview Drive, or call a licensed hauler to remove the leaves. The recycling center is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 7 p.m. through Nov. 30, and year-round on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Access to the recycling center for yard waste disposal requires proof of residency.
