With the holiday season at an end, the city of Brookfield Department of Public Works will help residents dispose of their natural Christmas trees through curbside pick-ups beginning Jan. 7.
Trees must be set out at the edge of the road by 7 a.m. that day, though trees will be collected over a two-week period. City crews will recycle the trees, which won't be accepted if they have plastic bags, wire, nails or other attached metals, or are buried in snow. Only natural trees will be collected.
There will be no return trips for pick-ups after Jan. 21, and call-in requests will not be accepted.
Wreaths, which are normally tied with wire, should be put in the trash.
Trees cut down to 4 feet and less than 50 pounds can also be left out for regular garbage pick-up.
Residents who wish to dispose of their tree themselves can bring them to the Recycling Center, 19700 Riverview Drive.
