Ask NOW: Will all city residents be on municipal water?

April 30, 2012

Is there a rumor you've heard you would like to track down? Is there something in the community that needs to get fixed? Mary Malahy answers some of the mysteries of life in the Elmbrook area.

Will all city residents be on municipal water?

Issue: A reader wants to know if the city plans to eventually transfer all city of Brookfield residents to municipal water. If so, will residents still be able to use wells for outdoor use, such as watering the grass?

Status: Tom Grisa, director of public works, said the city has a long-term plan to provide city water to all properties in the city of Brookfield within about 15 years. This will be provided by ground water.

When residents transfer to city water they are allowed to maintain their private well for outdoor use, but it still has to be safe to drink in case someone drinks from the hose, Grisa said.
