Is there a rumor you've heard you would like to track down? Is there something in the community that needs to get fixed? Mary Malahy answers some of the mysteries of life in the Elmbrook area.
Ditch's unpaved stretch not part of flooding problem
Issue: A reader wrote to me about the ditch in the center of Bermuda Boulevard. She noticed that part of it is paved but the section between Nassau Drive and Windemere Road is unpaved. She wants to know why. She also is concerned that the unpaved section of the ditch leads to flooding.
Status: I talked to Jeff Chase, city engineer, and he said he doesn't know why portions of the ditch were paved. He suspects those portions evolved over a long period of time and that paving took place in connection with various maintenance activities.
He assured me that the unpaved portion of the ditch has nothing to do with flooding. He also said that the only recorded property damage in that area is from sanitary sewer basement backups. This is not related to storm water problems, he explained.
