IP addresses lead to arrest in Elm Grove office burglary

Dec. 11, 2013

Elm Grove police arrested an Oak Creek man Dec. 2 for reportedly taking more than $20,000 of computer equipment from TWP Architecture, 13100 Watertown Plank Road.

Christopher Edwards, charged with burglary to a building, faces up to 12.5 years in prison and up to $25,000 in fines if convicted of the felony.

Edwards allegedly broke into TWP Architecture through a basement window between 6 and 7 a.m. Nov. 23 and took several computers and related equipment, Elm Grove Assistant Chief of Police Jason Hennen said.

Hennen said police were able to track down Edwards by tracing the location of the computers by their IP addresses and executing search warrants at two residences.

At one residence in Oak Creek, police found the vehicle that had been seen at the office on security camera footage, as well as much of the stolen property. At another residence in Milwaukee, police found a computer Edwards had sold to the resident, Hennen said.

Edwards is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Dec. 12.
