Last week's rain still causing road closures

July 26, 2010 | 0 comments

Several streets in the city of Brookfield remain closed because of the high water caused by last week's torrential rains.

Capt. Jim Adlam of the Brookfield Police Department said that as of 3 p.m. today, the following roads were closed:

• Barker Road between Capitol Drive and Gebhardt Road;

• the entire intersection of Barker Road and North Avenue (the intersection was previously partially closed for road construction);

• River Road east of Barker Road;

• North Avenue from Derrin Lane west to Barker Road; and

• Mitchell Park Drive.

Adlam said it's unclear when the roads will reopen, since they still have standing water. Even after the water clears, Adlam said, the city will need to inspect the roads to make sure they are safe for motorists.

Mitchell Park remains closed to the public, and all classes and camps at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts have been canceled for today.
