East's Bowers leaving to head to Mequon

The Elmbrook School Board on Tuesday is expected to approve the resignation of Brookfield East High School Principal Brett Bowers.

Bowers, who has been principal at East for five years, has accepted a job as principal at Homestead High School pending the board's action. His last day would be July 30.

In a memo to the board, Superintendent Matt Gibson said he does not recommend recruiting a replacement for Bowers now "given the lateness in the hiring season and available talent within the district."

Gibson said the district could appoint another administrator to become principal at East or could appoint an interim principal for the 2010-11 school year and conduct a normal recruitment process in the second semester.

Gibson will give an update on the district's next step at the meeting, which will be held at 7 p.m. at the Central Administration Office, 13780 Hope St.

  1. It's interesting to see one of the two principals who will be charged with implementing the District's wonderful new high school schedule deciding to cut and ru... er... I mean, move on to better opportunities, just a few weeks after urging the School Board to make a quick decision about the policy.
  2. Oh, please, Dr. Gibson, TAKE the Burleigh Elem principal....PLEASE!!!!!! With his twenty years of, cough, performance, I'm sure he'd do until (a) you can hire someone qualified or (b) he retires.
  3. Why are we losing so many top teachers and administrators? If we have such great benefits and facilities.....why are our top performers and people getting excellent results moving on to different districts?? Someone explain your theory and then a proposed solution:
