Former candidate backs Wilson for School Board

March 24, 2010 | 0 comments

Public Forum:

Consider Kathryn Wilson for the Board of Education, Elmbrook School District.

A primary responsibility of a Board of Education is to be aware of economic forces and how they interact with education systems.

Budget cuts will be made over the next few years. A preferred scenario must be a framework against which administration and board behavior will be judged. In the first candidate forum, Kathryn was the only candidate besides myself to suggest that clarity of vision will be essential to sound budgetary and instructional decisions. Of the remaining candidates, Kathryn has the most comprehensive view of education practices in Elmbrook and beyond, the best grasp of alternative scenarios, and the vision to create forward momentum within the constraints of our economic footing.

As a volunteer, Kathryn has served on committees that add clarity to several dimensions of a future preferred scenario. She has extensive experience in working on curriculum, delivery and evaluation. And, because her children range from gifted and talented to special needs, she brings a commitment to this topic few others make.

Kathryn chairs the district G&T Parent Advisory Board. A few years ago, differentiated instruction was not high in quality. A dedicated previous chair and Kathryn worked tirelessly with an education services staff member to advance differentiated instruction to a higher level. Diagnosis of human variability is critical for all children and youth. Kathryn's leadership in this initiative is valuable to the board.
