Allgaier has great track record of serving district

March 17, 2010 | 0 comments

Public Forum:

I have been very impressed with the role that Glen Allgaier has played during the past three years on the School Board. I would note three particular areas that have impressed me: long-term planning, community involvement and fiscal responsibility.

Long-term planning: Three months into his tenure on the board, Glen proposed (and the board adopted) that the board develop a five-year plan to meet the financial challenges facing the district. Previously, the district annually did a five-year financial "projection" but the financial "planning" was only done on a yearly basis. In response, the district established budget study teams that have been considering alternatives to meet the significant financial challenges that have now surfaced due to declining enrollment.

Community involvement: Following the failed high school facilities referendum, Glen recommended that a study team be established, including a balanced representation of community members who had actively opposed that proposal. He also worked actively with Common Council members to obtain their input and inform them regarding referendum details. As a result, the mayor and majority of the Common Council endorsed the proposal, and it was passed by the electorate.

Fiscal responsibility: Glen was active in supporting the development of "Enrollment Management Tool," developed by community volunteers. This tool allows the district to better understand the true costs of adding nonresident students to the district, previously viewed to be "no cost" - only providing revenue. As chair of the Finance and Operations Committee, he argued for a delay in the awarding of the Pilgrim Park heating/air conditioning contract until a better definition of requirements was available. As a result, the district will save over $1 million on that contract.

Glen Allgaier is tireless in his commitment to strengthening the Elmbrook schools.
