Candidate promotes positive learning settings

Public Forum:

The frustrating part of this election is that every question asked of me has to do with budget cuts and finances. Obviously this is an important subject and major decisions will be made in the near future that will impact our district and the entire community and it is wise that the board is focusing on assessing all possible scenarios in order to make the best decisions; decisions that have the least amount of negative impact on student learning and quality education. Decisions that I am ready to tackle. With that said, the board, in my opinion must not lose sight of other student-impacting issues.

When you look at your child you have hopes and dreams, when you send your child off to school you have expectations. We want our schools to provide our children with a top-notch education. We want our children to be safe, and we want our children to be happy. So what we want is for our children to have an overall excellent educational experience.

It is proven that a child will learn better and learn more in a positive environment. A child's learning capacity is greater if the mind is free from stress, fear and the effects of drugs or alcohol. With a strong partnership with parents there are ways to create a better learning environment for our kids. These strategies enhance the effectiveness of the entire learning community.

Does this take work and effort? Of course it does. But the benefits are far greater. If the environment enhances a student's ability to learn and reach their utmost potential you will see increased test scores, reduced conflict, increased focus and reduced behavioral misconduct. Increased confidence and self esteem. Overall a more positive experience. This is my definition of student success.
