Red Robin plans to build a new restaurant on the former site of Houlihan's at Brookfield Square, but Plan Commissioners on Monday tabled any action on the proposal and asked the gourmet burger chain to come back with a more distinctive architectural design.
Red Robin would raze the Houlihan's building, which sits north of Barnes and Noble on the mall's east side, and build a new 5,700-square-foot structure.
Houlihan's closed late last month.
Red Robin, which has nine locations in Wisconsin, would have a capacity of just more than 200 people, and would be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The restaurant also plans to have a full-service bar.
Plan Commissioners on Monday told Red Robin representatives that they would like the building to have more of a visual impact and recommended a few changes to the proposal, including making the restaurant's entrance larger and taller.
Revised plans will come back to the Plan Commission on March 8.
