Voters will have the chance to quiz the mayoral candidates on the key issues facing the city at a forum set for Jan. 26 at the Brookfield Public Safety Building, 21000 N. Calhoun Road.
The forum, co-sponsored by Brookfield-Elm Grove NOW and the Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce, will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Audience members will be asked to submit questions in writing during the event or in advance by e-mailing them to bcc@brookfieldchamber.com. Moderator Mark Maley, editor-in-chief of NOW Newspapers, will pose the questions to the candidates.
"The Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce is pleased to partner with NOW Newspapers in bringing the community a primary mayoral forum," chamber President Carol White said. "Although we represent the business community, we also feel it is important to do what we can to assist the residents in having an opportunity to hear directly from the candidates in the mayor's race through this forum."
Maley added the forum is just one aspect of the newspaper's commitment to provide readers with comprehensive coverage of this important race.
"As is the case with our weekly 'ask-the-candidate' feature, this forum is another way for readers to directly get answers from the men vying to be the next mayor," he said. "Whether it's in the newspaper or online at BrookfieldNOW.com, we're providing coverage of the race that voters can't get anywhere else."
Two other pre-primary candidate forums also have been announced:
• The Concerned Calhoun Community will host a forum for Brookfield's mayoral candidates at 7 p.m. Jan. 20 at Swanson Elementary School, 305 N. Calhoun Road. Each candidate will be allowed to make an opening statement, and will then answer questions from Concerned Calhoun Community Board members. If time permits, questions will be taken from the audience. The forum is free and open to the public.
• The East Central Branch of the Waukesha County Republican Party will hold a forum from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 4 in the Common Council Chambers at City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road.
