Public Forum:
Those who know me well were not surprised by my recent announcement to run for mayor of Brookfield. I have gained key insight and earned unique experience working on behalf of many groups and individuals in our community. My work with the 2035 Task Force (a group that explored ways we can grow and prosper in the future) evoked a simple question: Who will lead our city into the future?
Although the current mayor is working at full capacity with a superb staff that he inherited from his predecessor, he has not been skillful in leading the community where it needs to go in order to remain as bright and prosperous as it has been for so many years. During his eight years in office, he has demonstrated that he is incapable of providing significant leadership on a host of challenges and opportunities for our future. Especially now, we need leaders with the insight to solve critical problems as well as the skill to apply those solutions effectively.
For the last 14 years I have consistently been a real estate sales leader in Brookfield. People often worked with me over the years because of my extensive knowledge of this community and because of my reputation for integrity and results. My experience on the Elmbrook School Board and formerly as a Common Council member with the city of Brookfield gave me greater insight than most about the strengths and weaknesses of our community.
This year our community lost nearly 2 percent of its current tax valuation. Next year's loss could be even worse. Although we cannot overturn recession-extending state and federal policies, we can structure our city to be competitive in any political environment.
As a conservative, I defend not only the principles of free enterprise, but also the federal Constitution. I would encourage the free expression and participation of people who disagree with me. Those who object to a plan of action often bring forward valid ideas and principles that ought to be examined. My leadership style would welcome and explore diverse proposals for improving the city.
Having served as an alderman and School Board member, as well as a participant in numerous other projects (public and private) to help the city, I humbly ask you to consider my candidacy for mayor of Brookfield.
