Decision about girls co-op hockey team baffling

Sept. 8, 2009 | 0 comments

Public Forum:

In regards to Isral DeBruin's article about a request to have Elmbrook School District take part in a co-op girls hockey team (Sept. 3 issue), I have a few things to say.

While we will live with the decision made by the athletic director and administrators to not approve the girls co-op hockey team, I will always be confused with their reasoning. My daughter Jessica's only option now is to play with the boys hockey team, and as a father who has encouraged her to play a sport she loves, I now find myself wishing she would not play hockey.

We have asked the School Board to reconsider the administrators' decision, but they said, "no" because there are other more pressing issues right now. This I can agree with, although my question to all parties is pretty simple: Why do you want a girl to play boys hockey?

It makes no sense.
