A circa-1865 farmhouse at a shopping center on the city's north side could be preserved if Brookfield's Common Council next week agrees with a recommendation by the city's Plan Commission.
The Plan Commission on Monday recommended approval of a plan for construction of a new building, site work and a general long-term development plan for Stonewood Village, a 30-year-old shopping center on Capitol Drive west of Calhoun Road.
After several months of deliberation between the city, the Elmbrook Historical Society and Stonewood Village developer 4S, the commission voted 5-2 to approve the plan, which winds a drive aisle around the 145-year-old structure, saving it from razing or relocation.
Commissioners Jennifer Donze and Kevin Wahlgren voted against the plan, saying 4S' original proposal to raze the farmhouse made more sense from a design and layout standpoint on the site.
The Common Council will have a chance to see both plans when it votes July 21. The Common Council meeting will start at 7:45 p.m. at City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road.
