Independence Day parades, celebrations slated for Saturday

Fourth of July festivities are on tap in the city and town of Brookfield on Saturday.

The city's parade will start at 10 a.m. at Brookfield Central High School, 16900 W. Gebhardt Road. The parade will travel west on Gebhardt to Calhoun Road, north on Calhoun to North Avenue, west on North to Norhardt Drive and south on Norhardt to end behind the Ruby Isle shopping center.

An ice cream social and ceremony will be held at Civic Plaza outside City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road, after the parade.

The city's annual pre-fireworks event, Family Fest, will run from 6 to 9 p.m. at Mitchell Park, 19900 River Road. The city's fireworks show will start at dusk - about 9 p.m. - at the park.

The town's parade will start at 9 a.m. at Elmbrook Church, 777 S. Barker Road. The parade runs east along Davidson Road to Linden Lane and then south on Linden Lane to Marx Park, 700 S. Barker Road.

A community picnic with games, food and refreshments will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the park.

Brookfield City Hall and Brookfield Town Hall, 645 N. Janacek Road, will be closed Friday. The Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, will be closed Saturday.
