District unlikely to increase music staffing next year

June 2, 2009 | 0 comments

Staffing levels for Elmbrook's middle school instrumental music classes would not increase under the latest version of the district's 2009-10 budget, even though the programs are understaffed.

Christine Hedstrom, assistant superintendent of human resources, said a staffing increase will not happen unless program enrollment greatly increases.

"Right now the recommendation is not to increase the band or orchestra staffing in the middle schools, but to maintain them," Hedstrom said, "and know that if we do need to add, it will be for a specific reason and it will be in budget."

Hedstrom told School Board members earlier this month that the programs are understaffed and that they will see an enrollment increase during the 2009-10 school year.

School Board members voted Tuesday to approve the music staffing levels along with the latest version of the 2009-10 budget.

The budget will be presented to district residents during Elmbrook's annual meeting at the district's Central Administrative Offices, 13780 Hope St., Brookfield, at 7 p.m. June 22.
