Is there a rumor you've heard you would like to track down? Is there something in the community that needs to get fixed? Mary Malahy answers some of the mysteries of life in the Elmbrook area.
Why doesn't city of Brookfield have single-stream recycling?
Issue: A reader wants to know why Brookfield requires residents to separate their recycling materials instead of combining them in one large bin like other communities do.
Status: Tom Grisa, director of public works, explained that Brookfield uses a double-stream recycling program while some other communities use single-stream. Waukesha County's recycling program doesn't have the ability to run a single-stream recycling program at this time.
However, the county is looking into switching to a single-stream system, Grisa added. He explained that there are several issues to consider, including the cost, size of bins required and whether the county could continue curbside collection with the larger bins.
