Central teacher Jill Cook wins awards

Sept. 26, 2011

Jill Cook, Brookfield Central English teacher and adviser to the Tyro, Central's student newspaper, has received two awards.

In April, one of Cook's students, Megan Kalata, was selected to receive the 2011 GE STAR Award and nominated Cook to receive an accompanying award for the school. The GE Foundation, the Institute of International Education, presented Cook with a one-time financial award of $500 to be used for educational purposes.

In addition, Cook recently learned that she has been selected by the Kettle Moraine Press Association Board of Directors to be honored as the Nancy Becker Newspaper Adviser of the Year. She was nominated by her students.

Cook will be honored at the Advisers' Luncheon at the KEMPA Fall Journalism Conference at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Oct. 14.
