A few vigilant residents recently surprised a man who was trying to steal a bag from an unattended car, Brookfield police say.
According to the police report:
The man tried to steal a bag from a car parked at the gas station at 14035 W. Capitol Drive at 5:22 p.m. Sept. 1.
Patrons saw the man leaving with the bag and chased after him. While fleeing, he threw the stolen bag aside. It was recovered and returned to its owner.
The man left in a van driven by another man.
