It's your paper; tell us what you think

Call, e-mail or visit us to weigh in on revamped NOW

Aug. 31, 2010 | 0 comments

This week's newspaper is the second issue of the revamped Brookfield-Elm Grove NOW, and the reaction we've received so far from readers to our inaugural issue has been overwhelmingly positive.

"This morning I woke up to a new Brookfield NOW," one reader said in an e-mail to me just hours after she received last week's paper. "All the changes that have been made make the paper more interesting, fun, in-depth … Just wanted to let you and your staff know that I am impressed, and look forward to every Thursday morning now."

Other readers echoed similar comments and particularly seemed to end the new features we've added to NOW - the Mystery Photo Contest, the "Top This" feature and the Fast Facts about the community.

I also received many positive comments from the more than 100 people who visited us at Grasch Foods on Friday during one of four "meet-and-greet" events we're holding in Brookfield and Elm Grove. The next one, by the way, is Sept. 10 at Kopps Custard.

New features added

In case you missed it, we punched up the newspaper a bit by introducing some new features designed to provide more local information and to boost interaction between you and us.

Among the additions:

• "Ask Now," a column that answers readers' questions about problems or issues in the community;

• "Just a Minute," an at-a-glance look at what local government is up to;

• "What'd It Sell For," a listing of recent home sales;

• "Business Spotlight," a regular feature on interesting area businesses;

• "Someone You Should Know," a look at people who are making a difference; and

• "Grab a Bite," a monthly column that profiles area restaurants.

• "Coming to Town," a look at new businesses planning to open in Brookfield and Elm Grove.

We also have added a couple of new features in our Sports section. Veteran sports writer Tom "Sky" Skibosh will give his weekly perspective on the Elmbrook sports scene in his "Sky's Take" column. Those involved in athletics who don't normally get their names in the paper are the focus of the "Away from the Limelight" feature.

Newsstand copies available

And it's also easier to find the newspaper on the streets, as Brookfield-Elm Grove NOW is being sold at nearly 40 local outlets

If you already receive NOW in your Thursday Journal Sentinel, you will continue to do so as part of your subscription. If you don't receive the Thursday Journal Sentinel but want to receive NOW, our circulation department can make that happen. Give them a call at (414) 224-2222.

While we're happy with the feedback we've received so far, I still am anxious to hear your suggestions on how to make the paper better. Call me directly at (262) 446-6630 or send an e-mail to mmaley@cninow.com.

Custard & conversation

• Members of the NOW staff - including Editor in Chief Mark Maley and sports writer Tom "Sky" Skibosh - will hand out newspapers and greet the public from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Sept. 10 at Grasch Foods, 13950 W. North Ave.

• The first 250 people who clip out the coupon in next week's paper and bring to Kopps will receive a free scoop of their special NOW Newspapers flavor: black and white and red all over.
