Marvin R. Swentkofske
Marvin R. Swentkofske of Brookfield died July 23, 2009.
He was a graduate of Marquette University, where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity and the varsity football team. Marv was awarded the Coach Lisle Blackburn Award as the Most Valuable Player on the 1954 squad. In February of 1955 Marv signed a National Football League contract to play with the Green Bay Packers. He also received his Master of Business Administration degree from Marquette University.
After serving two years in the U.S. Army, Marv began serving as an investment counselor at firms in Milwaukee and Toledo. In 1987 he founded Summit Investment Management, which continues in Milwaukee to this day.
Marvin was a long-time member of St. Mary's Visitation Parish in Elm Grove. There he served as president of the School Board, president of the Athletic Association, and was coach to several teams. Marv was also a past president of the DSHA Parents Club. He served many years as a member of the Marquette University Athletic Board and was recognized for his long history of outstanding service with the Hy Popuch Award in 2007. Marv was also a member of the Blue Mound Golf and Country Club for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Eleanor "Ellie" Montville; children, Sharon Swentkofske of Newton, Mass., Sandy (Rick) Yu of Westport, Conn., Lt. Col. Mark (Gail) Swentkofske of the U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., Susan (Paul) Reilly of Huntington, N.Y., and Matthew Swentkofske of Chicago; grandchildren, Nicholas and Alexandra Yu, Marcus and Danny Swentkofske, Jake, Kate, Emma and Elizabeth Reilly; brother and sister, Carl (Joyce) Swentkofske and Marge Ferkovich; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Maybelle Swentkofske.
Mass of Christian Burial was July 27 at St. Mary's Visitation Parish. Graveside services were at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Marquette University Athletic Fund or the American Lung Association.
