June 2, 2009 | 0 comments

Elizabeth "Betty" Mead (nee Bradley) of Elm Grove died May 22, 2009, at age 87 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born in Denver, she grew up in Upper Michigan and Wisconsin. While attending the University of Chicago, she met and married George, and they eventually settled in Elm Grove in 1955.

She served as president of the Women's Friends of Art at the Milwaukee Art Museum and helped launch the Annual Lakefront Festival of the Arts. She also chaired the Neighborhood Division of the Milwaukee United Fund. She was active in Elm Grove Girl and Boy scouts. Education was a lifelong interest, and in 1976, she received a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Architecture, and a master's degree in English the following year.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, George; daughter, Holly Mead Cappelletto; sons, Robert (Karen) and George (Julie); six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Memorial service was June 2 at Wilson Center for the Arts, Brookfield.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.

The family thanks her dedicated caregivers

Church and Chapel Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
