Raymond T. Bedwell Jr.
Raymond T. Bedwell Jr. of Waukesha, formerly of Brookfield, died March 28, 2009, at age 76.
He was born on Dec. 15, 1932, in Long Island, N.Y., the son of Raymond T. Bedwell Sr. and Mary Mercedes Conrard. After graduating from the University of Dayton in Ohio, he married Cosmina "Connie" Pagura on Aug. 29, 1959, in Columbus, Ohio. On that same day, they moved to Milwaukee for a teaching position for Ray at Marquette University. Along with being a professor of radio and TV broadcasting, he also maintained that curriculum at Marquette.
He was a pioneer in establishing and organizing the educational programs at St. Mary's and St. Joseph's hospitals in Milwaukee. He was an adjunct professor at Cardinal Stritch University for the Hospital Administration program and the MBA program. He went on to own and operate a consulting business for 18 years in general health care management, retiring in 2002.
He volunteered as a teacher of English as a Second Language with the Literacy Council of Greater Waukesha. He and his wife are members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. With his lifelong hobby of being a magician, he was a member of International Brotherhood of Magicians and Society of American Magicians. He was an excellent baker and enjoyed making special treats for his family.
He is survived by his wife, Cosmina "Connie"; children, Mark R. (Cheryl) Bedwell, Michael F. (Linda) Bedwell, David J. (Heidi) Bedwell and Elizabeth M. (Gregory Capper) Bedwell; grandchildren, Michelle, Melissa, Margaret, Ashton Taylor and Emmett; step-grandchildren, Sherman (Kristina) Bedwell and Ona Broach; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by baby grandson, Mercer Davide Bedwell.
Funeral Mass was April 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Waukesha. Interment was at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Waukesha Public Museum, Literacy Council of Greater Waukesha, Waukesha Civic Theatre, the Waukesha Food Pantry, St. Joseph Catholic Church or St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
The family thanks Dr. Dougherty, Dr. Verma, Dr. Riordan and all the staff at ProHealth Care; Dr. Walsh, his son Christopher Walsh, Dr. Lawrence Burkert and all the staff at Wheaton Franciscan.
