James A. McCann of Brookfield died Feb. 20, 2009, at age 84.

His 28-year political career included five elected terms as the comptroller of the city of Milwaukee along with service as a Milwaukee alderman and state assemblyman.

He was an officer of the Knights of Columbus. He was a certified public accountant who was active in professional, civic and charitable organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley (nee Gerlach); children, Brian McCann, Maureen (Edward) Wahhab and Shari (Martin) Brand; grandchildren, Nadia, Audra, Noelle, Grace and Ameara Wahhab and Timothy and John Brand; sister and brother, Rose Eiting and Robert McCann; son-in-law, Jack Feely.

He was preceded in death by children, Timothy J., Kathleen Schaefer Feely and Michael.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m., Feb. 26, at St. Margaret Mary Parish, 3930 N. 92nd St., Milwaukee. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Private burial will be at Southern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove.
