Ted Guszkowski of Brookfield earned his master's degree in clinical social work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in August. He is a staff psychotherapist at Wisconsin Community Mental Health Counseling Centers of Mequon.

Taylor Laitsch of Brookfield earned a bachelor's degree in mass communication from Winona State University in Minnesota in August.

Sarah Guszkowski of Brookfield made the spring semester dean's list at Loyola University-Chicago. She also was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Nu Jesuit honor society in October.

The following Brookfield students have earned scholarships from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation, given to children of Northwestern Mutual employees and retirees: Alexander Wells, attending Bethel University in St. Paul, Minn., Justin Wells, attending the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, Alexandra Rooney, attending Auburn University in Alabama, Laura Burbach, attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Kayli Gmach, attending Marquette University in Milwaukee.

Laure Ries of Brookfield was appointed a student body senator, representing the School of Nursing, at the University of St. Louis in Missouri.

Mary Jo Baas of Brookfield has been appointed by Gov. Scott Walker to the Wisconsin Women's Council. Baas is a long-standing member of the council, first appointed by Gov. Tommy G. Thompson in 1992 and serving as chair from 2000 to 2004. Baas, president of Liberty House Consulting, worked in the state Capitol as a senior policy analyst for the Republican Assembly Caucus. She then moved into the private sector as director of government affairs for the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce. Baas has received numerous awards, including the Milwaukee Business Journal's Forty Under Forty award, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's GOLD (Graduate of the Last Decade) award and several fellowships from the Institute for Humane Studies in Washington, D.C.
