Marquette defeated Germantown, 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 15-12, to win the state title.
Marquette earned its spot in the finals with victories over Westosha Central and Brookfield East.
Germantown reached the finals with victories over Middleton and Catholic Memorial. The Warhawks rallied from two-set deficits in both contests.
The youthful Brookfield East boys volleyball team battled back twice, but then just fell short in a wild fifth set and dropped a 3-2 decision to Marquette on Saturday afternoon at the WIAA State Tournament at Wisconsin Lutheran College.
Marquette (23-2) won the first set (25-17), but the Spartans came back to even the score at 1-1 with a second set win (25-23). The Hilltoppers then won the third set (25-20), only to see East rally to even it up at 2-2 (26-24).
Finally, in set five, each team kept fighting off match-point before Marquette finally won, 23-21.
"Whatever you do in life, all you can control is your effort and what you do," East coach Tim Owen said. "I thought our guys put their best shot out there. And if you get beat, you can live with that. I don’t think there were many game fives in state history that went to 23-21."

The only other time the Brookfield East boys volleyball team made it to the WIAA State Tournament in 2000, they were one and done. Not this time.
The Spartans (18-10) swept Kaukauna (30-10), 25-16, 25-19 and 25-23. Their reward? They get to face powerful Marquette (28-2) at noon on Saturday. The Hilltoppers swept Westosha Central (27-11) by scores of 25-11, 25-18 and 25-18 to advance to tomorrow's match.
The Spartans will be facing MUHS for the third time this season, losing 3-0 in the Middleton Invitational and 3-2 in their Greater Metro Conference match.
"This was definitely the most fun we've had all season," said 6-4 junior outside hitter Matt Klassen. "The intense level of this game was the same. They played very well as well."
