Brookfield East's Alec James commits to Badgers

Jan. 30, 2013 4:38 p.m. | Madison – Gary Andersen has secured perhaps the most important oral commitment for his first freshman class at Wisconsin.

Alec James, the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association defensive player of the year as a senior at Brookfield East High School last fall, on Wednesday reaffirmed his commitment to the Badgers.

James gave UW a non-binding oral commitment last summer but reopened his recruiting after Bret Bielema left UW for Arkansas in December.

James subsequently considered Oregon and Michigan State. Arkansas, led by Bielema and defensive line coach Charlie Partridge, made a late push as well.

A final visit to UW last weekend to meet with Andersen and defensive coordinator Dave Aranda and study the defense they ran at Utah State convinced James that UW was his best option.
