Gun threat leads to brief lockdown at Fairview South in Brookfield

Jan. 24, 2013 2:24 p.m. | An Elmbrook School District official said students at Fairview South School, 3525 Bermuda Boulevard, are in no danger after a brief lockdown this morning.

The elementary school, which serves about 60 special-needs students ages 12 to 20, went on lockdown for about 30 minutes as students arrived for class.

Anne Moore, director of communications for the district, said school staff members were notified of a threat and immediately contacted authorities.

"Staff was made aware of a specific threat that a specific student had threatened to bring a gun to school," Moore said.

School staff provided Brookfield police with the name of the student and a description of the vehicle he likely would be arriving in.

Missing Brookfield woman found safe

Jan. 21, 2013 9:02 p.m. | A mildly autistic city of Brookfield woman reported missing Monday afternoon was found unharmed Monday evening in Milwaukee, police said.

Amber P. Hammond, 26, was found after someone who had given her a ride Monday night contacted city of Brookfield police, according to a police official.

Brookfield police issue alert for missing autistic woman

Jan. 21, 2013 4:46 p.m. | City of Brookfield police are asking the public's help in locating a missing endangered person.

According to the alert, Amber P. Hammond, 26, has a mild form of autism and functions with the mentality of a 6-year-old.

She was last seen by a neighbor at 10:30 a.m. walking with a wheel-equipped suitcase near Calhoun Road and Capital Drive.

She is described as white, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 230 pounds, with black hair, and was wearing a royal blue fleece jacket, blue jeans and a white hat.

Police are asking that anyone who sees anyone fitting this description to contact the City of Brookfield Police Department at (262) 787-3702.
