City seeks interim District 7 representative
The Brookfield Legislative and Licensing Committee is requesting letters of interest and resumes for the vacant District 7 seat on the Common Council.
All submissions must be to the City Clerk's office at 2000 N. Calhoun Road by Sept. 2. Interviews will occur the week of Sept. 12, and the appointment will be made by the Common Council on Sept. 20.
The term will run through April 2012, when the seat will be up for election for the final two years of the term.

Brookfield woman says unleashed Rottweiler attacked her dog
A woman told city of Brookfield police that her dog was attacked by a rottweiler during a walk through Mitchell Park on June 10.
According to the police report:
The woman was walking her 26-pound dog through the dog park at 9:34 a.m. June 10 when an 80-pound brown and black rottweiler bit her dog in the abdomen and shook it.
The victim told the owner that her dog should be on a leash. The owner replied, "You should not have walked by my dog."
The owner fled east on a path that leads to a Brookfield Elementary on Brookfield Road.

Cedarburg tops Lancers, 3-1, moves to state finals
No. 1 ranked Cedarburg beat Brookfield Central, 3-1, scoring twice in the second half to put the game away.
Nikki Albrecht scored 17 minutes into the game off a pass from Kaitlin Kuznacic to take a 1-0 lead into intermission.
Then six minutes into the second half, Tylor Skorik scored in front of an empty net when Rachel Oleson came out to make a play, taking a pass from Josee Stiever.
Then at 52:30, Stiever drilled a beautiful unassisted go from about 15 yards out.
Emma Brauer scored Central's goal to prevent the shutout at the 69:15 mark, drilling a shot in from about 15 yards away in the middle in front of the goal.

Brookfield Central's Bella Turelli shook off a shoulder injury and kicked in the winning goal in a 1-0 quarter-final win over Neenah Thursday afternoon, moving the Lancers on to the semi-finals at 6 p.m. Friday against the winner of the Cedarburg/Eau Claire Memorial match.
Cedarburg, the top team in the state, was winning 1-0 early in the game.
The game was scoreless until nine minutes where left to play. Central's Morgan Kenney hit a shot to the right of the goal which was deflected. Lulu Zuba then got the ball and flipped it to Turelli, who put in a shot from about eight feet in front of the goal.
"I just did a little turn move and put it in," Turelli said, not knowing where the ball came from. "I think the goalkeeper (Brooke Hiltunen) lost track of the ball after it was deflected."
The fact that Turelli played let alone scored the only goal was surprising.

Members of Victory International Fellowship are in cleanup mode after a large tree fell through the church's roof at the height of Wednesday's severe storms.
Lead pastor Rory Grooters said about 130 men, women and children were inside the church, near Calhoun and Burleigh roads, at 7 p.m., when the tree fell.
"What I thought was loud thunder was actually the tree falling through the roof," Grooters said.
Adults were in the sanctuary, teens were in the gym and young kids were in the children's wing, away from where the tree had fallen.
Members immediately went into disaster mode and safely evacuated everyone from the building using the church's policies and procedures.

A man who led a church in Grand Rapids, Mich., was indicted Tuesday in Milwaukee on counts that he defrauded a bank in Wisconsin on a $1.5 million loan.
Timothy Woodson, who served as pastor of Well Rehoboth Church in Grand Rapids from 2004 to at least 2009, is charged with mail fraud and using the U.S. Postal Service for the fraud.
Woodson received a $1.5 million loan from Ridgestone Bank in Brookfield in 2007 -- $800,000 to buy property for the church and nearly $250,000 to pay off an existing loan on the church property. The rest was used to pay for improvements and other costs, according to the indictment.
After spending the money, Woodson tried to get another loan from a different bank, Chemical Bank in Midland, Mich. Chemical Bank officials told Woodson they would not extend a loan unless the church property was free of any liens. At that time, Ridgestone had a lien on the church property and refused to release it, the indictment said.
In June 2008, Woodson created and filed a false discharge of the mortgage lien on the church property held by Ridgestone with the Kent County Register of Deeds in Michigan, the indictment says. Woodson created a mailbox he opened at a UPS store in Brookfield. The Register of Deeds recorded the false document and mailed it to the UPS store mailbox.

According to the city of Brookfield police report:
A man heard a knock at his door at 1:17 a.m. June 6.
When he opened the door, two men pushed their way in, taking an iPhone, cash and other items.
No weapons were displayed, and the men left the hotel through a rear door.

Lancers kickers whip East, 2-0
Brookfield Central's girls soccer team beat, Brookfield East, 2-0, on Saturday evening at Central to win the sectional semi-final and advance to the WIAA State Tournament on Thursday-Saturday next week.
Central scored 13 minutes, 12 seconds left into the game on a free kick by Sierra High. Central's Abby Miller was taken down by an East defender resulting in the opportunty.
Lined up to the left of the goal from 10 yards out, High drilled a shot into the top of the net over East goalkeeper Rachel Novak who leaped as high as she could.
Central's final goal came with seven minutes left when Miller led Lulu Zuba perfectly and the speedy sophomore outraced a Spartan defender and went one-on-one with Novak. As the helpless Novak came out to cut down on the shot, Zuba drilled it into the net to clinch the game.
But the key to the game came in the final seconds of the first half, when senior captain Jackie Wandt went to shoot a penalty kick.

Brookfield East improved as the tennis season went on, especially on the doubles side. But the Spartans just couldn't get to the level of powerful Marquette.
As a result, the Hilltoppers swept doubles as expected and then split the four singles matches, with freshmen Dave Horneffer and Doug Francken dominating with wins at No. 3 and N. 4 singles.
Senior Mike Ebsen/sophomore David Sinense at No. 3 doubles beat East senior Michael Wolff/sophomore Tyler Kendler (6-0, 7-5) in a tougher match than expected.
But MUHS No. 1 doubles of seniors CJ Armbrust/Jed Skeran handled juniors Ben Stewart/Jimmy Engelhart (6-4, 6-3).
In the longest and last doubles match finished, a key match, which would have taken the pressure off the Spartans to have to sweep singles to win, No. 2 doubles of senior Greg Raster/junior Austin Budiono battled sophomores Henry Termuehlen/Patrick Krill and won (6-0, 7-5).

Everything went like Brookfield East thought it would Friday night in the WIAA State Team Tennis quarter-finals, as the Spartans rolled over Wausau East, 7-0, at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
Felix Corwin on at No. 1 singles (7-0, 7-0), Tim Corwin won at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-1), David Horneffer won at No. 3 (6-1, 6-0) and Doug Francken at No. (6-1, 6-0).
In doubles Ben Stewart/Tim Engelhart won (6-1, 6-1), Henry Termuehlmen/Patrick Krill won (6-0, 6-1) and Michael Wulff/Tyler Kender won (6-3, 6-2).
"I was very pleased," coach Linda Lied said. "It's hard to play an opponent weaker than you, because sometimes you play down to the level and play only as hard as you need to.
"Our big speech was to come out hard and play focused right from the start. Our doubles did a really solid job with that, so they led the team. Everyone was playing tough tennis and they all got off the court really clean.

Wauwatosa East won’t miss Brookfield Central senior Morgan Kenny.
It was Kenny who provided the only goal in Central’s 1-0 sectional semifinal victory over the Red Raiders on Thursday night – and it was also Kenny who provided the assist in the Lancers 1-0 win over East on May 13.
Kenny connected at the 20:02 mark off an assist from sophomore Emma Brauer. It was all the Lancers (14-5-3) needed to advance to Saturday’s final with Brookfield East, whom they defeated 2-0 on Saturday at Central.
“It’s something we worked on in practice all the time,” Central head coach Jason Burdge said. “It was off one of our throw-ins. We scored a few goals on it this year. In practice, we made a couple of tweaks on it and that’s how Morgan got in there.”

Village of Butler - A Waukesha County Sheriff's investigation that compares the Butler Police Department to a college fraternity because of the behavior of some of its officers is expected to be released Thursday, according to sources familiar with the report.
The voluminous report includes summaries of the activities of five police officers including the retired police chief who participated in what one former police officer described as "porn in the morn."
The officers, including the chief, occasionally viewed and emailed pornographic photos on village electronic equipment including computers and cellular telephones. In addition, the officers engaged in conversations that included sexually and racially offensive language, according to the report.
One of the officers has been referred to the Waukesha County District Attorney's office for possible prosecution. The sources declined to describe the potential severity of the charges that might be brought against the police officer.
Police Chief Michael Cosgrove, a 33 year veteran of the department, announced his retirement in the midst of the investigation.

The pilot of a small experimental airplane that crashed at the Capitol Drive Airport this afternoon is alert and appears to be uninjured, Fire Chief Charlie Myers said.
"He didn't appear to be in any distress whatsoever," Myers said of the pilot. However, the pilot is being evaluated by Brookfield paramedics.
The plane landed upside down in a marshy area, and was found in water about boot high. The circumstances of the crash are unknown at this time, Myers said.
Flight for Life and multiple area fire departments responded.
As of 2:45 p.m., the two-seater airplane was still on the airfield.
