Brookfield Restaurant Reviews

Here is a list of Brookfield-area restaurants written about in the Journal Sentinel. All reviews are dated. Please be aware that restaurant ownership and practices change.

Café Manna
3815 N. Brookfield Road, Suite 100 (at Capitol Drive), Brookfield (262) 790-2342

Café Manna is a rarity. Many area restaurants offer at least some vegetarian or vegan dishes, but only a few are entirely vegetarian. Manna is one. What's more, 95% of Café Manna's food is organic, said owner Robin Kasch, and the restaurant will buy some of its produce from local farmers this summer. See full review | Restaurant's web site

Historic Red Mill
1005 S. Elm Grove Road, Brookfield (262) 797-9133

The Historic Red Mill's version of pot roast ($12.99) first mounds tender beef and carrots over creamy mashed potatoes. And then it applies the crowning glory, which made me crane my neck when I first saw a server carrying the dish to another table: a stack of deep-fried onion rings, kept in place with a pretzel rod speared into the entrée. Star Indian Bistro

19555 W. Blue Mound Road, Brookfield (262) 780-2998

The first time I visited Star Indian Bistro in Brookfield, it was a bitterly cold night. It was fairly nippy inside the restaurant, too. The chill in the restaurant was distracting, but my mood brightened when I saw the appetizers on the menu - they included several kinds of chaat, Indian street snacks. See full review

Takara Japanese Restaurant

12900 W. Blue Mound Road, Elm Grove, in the Autumn Grove Plaza (262) 789-8383

The artistry of the roll ($12.95) grabbed us: wafer-thin slices of ripe avocado, overlapped and arcing over each small mound of chopped raw tuna, topped by a tiny red dot of chili sauce. It was lovely to look at and great to eat, with a lemon sauce complementing the good spice from the tuna. The crunch from the tiny flakes of fried tempura batter completed the irresistible package. All at the table said they'd come back to Takara for that roll. See full review | Restaurant's web site

Vino Cappuccino
2848 N. Brookfield Road, Brookfield (262) 797-9061

The cafe and wine bar beside the charming little train station on Brookfield Road certainly does coffee and wine well. It's also a great spot for pizza to pair with that wine and sweets to go with the coffee. See full review | Restaurant's web site

Wasabi Sushi Lounge

15455 W. Blue Mound Road, Brookfield (262) 780-0011

I didn't know which to ogle, the sleek décor of Wasabi Sushi Lounge in Brookfield, or the artistic sushi roll and other dishes in front of me. As usual, the food won. It helped that some of it was on fire. See full review | Restaurant's web site
